ECONOMICS OF TECHNOLOGY

Scope:

The aim of the course is to analyze the role of technological change, technology and innovation as key factors for the development, dynamics and operation of modern economic and social systems, at national and international level. 

Description: 

The course deals with the concept, nature and characteristics of technological change, theoretical approaches to technological change, the concept of innovation, technology diffusion and transfer, the establishment and exploitation of innovation and policies for technology development. It also analyzes the role of technology at the micro-economic and sectoral level 

Content: 

Concepts of technological change, technological progress, and object of ‘Technology Economics’. The integration of technological change in economic analysis and thinking. Forms of technological change. Conceptual distinctions, criteria, indicators of technological change. Forms of knowledge. Nature and special features of technological change and innovation. Key Sources of Innovation. Theoretical Approaches-Practical Significance Models for the Research and Development (R&D) process ‘Technological examples’, ‘technological trajectories’, ‘technological opportunities’. Market structure, business size and innovation. Technology transfer. The sectoral dimension of technological change and evolutionary theory. Significance from a political point of view Business strategies for technological change and innovative activity.
