Course description

The course focuses on competition policy and regulation. It deals with the economic analysis and treatment of firms’ practices when firms have (significant) monopoly power in the market. These practices can take the following forms: abuse of a dominant position, collusion & concerted practices, mergers & acquisitions. In addition, the course addresses issues related to the theory and practice of market regulation such as natural monopolies, monopoly pricing regulation, multi-product business regulation, and market liberalization.

  4. Estimation of monopoly power
  5. Abuse of a dominant position
  6. Collusion
  7. Mergers & acquisitions
  8. Introduction to regulatory policy
  9. Monopoly regulation

Knowledge of Microeconomic Theory I, Microeconomic Theory II and mathematical calculus is taken for granted.
