Course: FINANCIAL  MARKETS LAW

The course aims to present the basic regulatory and contract law rules which govern the two basic markets of the financial system, i.e. banking and regulated markets. In respect of banking law the syllabus among others includes: (i) the concept, establishment and operation of credit institutions and various types of financial institutions (including factoring companies, leasing companies, payment and e-money institutions, credit servicing companies, FX-companies etc.); (ii) the main EU and Greek regulatory bodies for banking activities; (iii) the main banking operations and contracts such as various types of bank accounts, consumer and business loans, security over loans (e.g. mortgage, pledge, floating charge), current account credit facilities, bond loans, syndicated loans, financial leasing, factoring, credit cards, bank guarantees and LCs); and (iv) elements of structured finance (e.g. securitisations and the recent Greek legal framework establishing a secondary market for NPLs). In respect of regulated (capital) markets law the syllabus includes: (i) the concept, establishment and operation of investment firms and mutual funds; (ii) the licensing and operation of regulated markets; (iii) the various categories and the characteristics of investment services; (iv) the categories of investors (including institutional) and their protection; (v) the main EU and Greek regulatory bodies for investment activities; and (iv) the operation of regulated markets located in Greece including listing requirements, as well as trading and clearing systems.
